Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the level of awareness of health tourism among students studying at a Vocational School of Health Services in Şanlıurfa and to examine whether their awareness levels differ according to various demographic and academic variables.

Material and Methods: This research was designed using a quantitative research approach. The data were collected from 486 students through an online survey conducted between January 15 and January 31, 2026. In addition to a personal information form, the Health Tourism Awareness Scale consisting of 22 items was used as the data collection instrument. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used in the analysis of the research data.

Results: The findings revealed that the students’ level of awareness regarding health tourism was at a moderate level (Mean = 2.80 ± 0.95). When awareness scores were examined according to gender, age, class level, grade point average, and the program of study, no statistically significant differences were found (p > 0.05). However, students who had previously heard of the concept of health tourism and those who had participated in courses, seminars, or conferences related to health tourism had relatively higher awareness scores, and this difference was statistically significant (p < 0.05).

Discussion and Conclusion: The results of the study indicated that students’ awareness of health tourism was at a moderate level. This finding is consistent with previous studies conducted with health students and healthcare professionals reported in the literature. Furthermore, awareness levels were found to be associated more with prior knowledge about health tourism and participation in educational activities rather than demographic characteristics. Therefore, it is recommended that health tourism topics be incorporated into the curriculum and that educational activities aimed at increasing students’ awareness be expanded.
